Anterior Osteotomy for Bladder Extrophy

The black and white version of this was created for the Fourth Edition of the Atlas of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery by Raymond T. Morrissy, M.D.  and Stuart L. Weinstein, M.D. published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. The color version was created specifically for this Web site and is not published.

This was a particularly challenging procedure to illustrate because of the unusual exposure of the interior table of the pelvis. The surgeon achieves this by undermining and retracting the Iliacus and Iliopsoas muscle group to provide the necessary exposure for the osteotomy.  The image was digitally produced to match pre-existing art done  in airbrush.

The congenital anterior deformity of the pubic bone is shown in the inset.

Cantilever Rod Technique for Scoliosis Correction

This was created digitally to match previous works originally created in airbrush.  This schematic illustrates the principle step in the cantilever rod technique as an addition to The Spine chapter in the fourth edition of the Atlas of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery by Raymond T. Morrissy M.D. and Stuart L. Weinstein, M.D. published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

Distal Tibial Osteotomy

This series was created for the Fourth Edition of the Atlas of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery by Raymond T. Morrissy M.D. and Stuart L. Weinstein, M.D. published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

The original is an airbrush piece. I have since moved on to creating these digitally by incorporating both forms of media to achieve the best results.

This particular operation is used more frequently in children because of growth disturbances after fractures or congenital problems.
